Notes for Griffin Reynolds | ||||||||||||||||
DOB per Fryxell; another source he sent me has "4 April 1772 in Hancock, Berkshire Co., Massachusetts" MyFamily.com has 14 Apr 1772; birthplace per MyFamily.com Sometimes spelled Griffen. I once saw it Griffon in some DAR stuff, but I think that was a typo. Some published sources give Benjamin Reynolds & Lydia Watson as NGR's parents; I have satisfied myself that this is incorrect. I think confusion has resulted from Griffin having had an uncle by the same name. My first breakthrough as to Griffin's parentage came from DAR material sent by Dave Fryxell. In reference to Martha Gardner's pedigree, it refers to Griffin as "son of Jas." I took that to be an old abbreviation for James, and was able to work from there. 9/29/01: MyFamily.com has some incomplete information. Shows Griffin and Martha as NGR's parents. For Griffin, it shows mistakenly shows birth as Feb 1841--which obviously is the date of his death. Also says "Buried on the farm of his son Nathaniel Reynolds, Prophetstown, Illinois." It lists as his parents James Reynolds and Susannah Clark. 9/29/01: MyFamily.com shows these children: Nathaniel Gardner Reynolds Samuel Reynolds James Reynolds Polly Reynolds Nathaniel Reynolds Clark Rogers Reynolds Amanda Reynolds Chauncy Reynolds __ 1/10/2002: Found this under "Ancestors of Jacob Boomhower" at http://www.artdsm.com/clark/database/634.htm, but I don't know if the Reynoldses mentioned here are "my" Reynoldses. Griffin Reynolds had a brother named Clark; they had an uncle named Benjamin. It seems to me that some sources are unsure whether Griffin's son Nathaniel Gardner Reynolds was born in Massachusetts or Quebec...so I wonder if this is "my" Griffin Reynolds involved in the founding (? - used the word "granted" rather than "founded") of Stanbridge... 1.
