Both Brace and Bates are names that keep reappearing
in my Reynolds family tree. Indeed, it was my great-great grandfather,
Phineas
Bates Reynolds, who inadvertently set me to climbing the family
tree: I was test-driving the then-new (to me) Google search engine and
was looking for something halfways unusual to throw at it. On the theory
that there can't be too many Phineas
Bates Reynoldses running around out there, I typed in the name...and
got a hit. That took me to a page that listed other ancestors, including
my grandfather and his nine siblings. But it was just a list of names,
with no information. I found the owner of that web page, the first of my
"genealogy friends," Joan Taylor, who generously provided me with much
information that got me started.
Much of the information that follows comes from a family tree that has been floating around my people for twenty or thirty years; much of it comes from our old friend the internet. Both the Brace and Bates families have distinguished pedigrees, so there's plenty of info out there; in fact, I have more than what is contained on these pages, which I will post at some later date. It starts here. In the meantime, a question: There is, in the Chicago area, an Orange Brace Road. Does anyone know its story? Does it hook in with this family? William J Reynolds
